Albert Marquet is one of the forgotten major artists of the twentieth century. A lifelong friend of Matisse, Marquet is often remembered only for his evocations of ports, harbours and rivers. He did however develop his own style drawn from Fauvism and Impressionism. This catalogue demonstrates that there is far more to his art. His prints are almost Japanese like, his nudes frank and plastic.
Marquet lies in the great tradition of French painters - Claude, Chardin and Monet. His acute sense of observation of the poetry of everyday scenes makes Marquet an artist infinitely worthy of study.
