EN: Romano-Byzantine bronze mount in the form of a stylised lion, dating from late antiquity (circa 4th–7th century AD). Measuring 42 mm in length and weighing 12,33 g, the body is decorated with concentric ring-and-dot motifs, a popular decorative style of the period. Originally fixed to leather or wood, this type of applique likely served as an ornamental fitting, possibly for belts, harnesses, or ceremonial items. The reverse shows two intact fixing studs and a suspension loop at the tail end. The mount is missing its front foot but retains strong detail and a pleasant aged patina. The lion was a prominent symbol in Roman and Byzantine art, representing strength, protection, and imperial authority. Such mounts illustrate the continuity of classical motifs into the Byzantine era, blending Roman military and civic symbolism with evolving artistic traditions. See pictures for the appreciation of the state. The buyer agrees to purchase as is. L’acheteur s’engage à acheter tel quel.
